Get Started Gardening: 10 Easy Tips for Every Beginner

“Gardening is not just a hobby, it is a way to be happy”

Gardening is not only a hobby where your house looks nice but also provides mental peace. I also had to look after so many things when I began with gardening, but things slowly and steadily came into shape. If you like gardening or are about to begin with it, then the following 10 simple tips can come in handy for you.

1. Choose the right location

When starting gardening, the first thing to do is choose the right place. I used to plant trees in my balcony before but there is less sunlight there. Then I noticed that planting trees in the area where the sunlight will come in the morning is better. So plant the trees in the area where there will be a lot of sunlight.

2. Treat the water properly

Proper usage of water is very imperative in gardening. Initially, I used to take some time in judging the quantity of water needed by plants. Over-watering and under-watering result in root rot and plant death respectively. These days, I water the plants in such a way so that the soil is never over-watered nor under-watered.

3. Select the proper soil

I used to think that plants can be grown in any soil, but soon I realized that soil is also very important. I used compost soil for my gardening, which is excellent for plants. This not only strengthens the roots of the plants, but also helps them grow faster.

4. Begin with small plants

It can be overwhelming to plant lots of plants initially. I began by planting a few small plants, such as celery and basil. These plants were low maintenance and I received results fast. When you’re prepared, you can plant new plants slowly.

5. Select the right pot

Selecting the proper pot for cultivating a plant is also significant. I have used clay pots rather than plastic ones, which allows the soil to breathe and the plant develops quicker. Other than this, the pot must have proper drainage so the water does not stagnate.

6. Fertilize plants on schedule

In the beginning, I did not have any interest in fertilizing, but slowly I realized plants also need to get nutrition. Nowadays, I fertilize my plants with organic fertilizer, and it keeps the plants greener and healthier. Fertilizer requirements of plants are also different, so providing the right fertilizer to the plants at the right time is extremely necessary.

7. Check the plants frequently

I used to have a better sense of the state of plants when I used to look after them daily. I knew that little issues with plants could be addressed on schedule. For instance, when the leaves of a plant begin to wilt, I feel the plant requires more water or a smidgen of sunlight.

8. Determine the irrigation time

It took me sometime to realize that plants must be watered in the early morning or in the evenings. When you water during the hot part of the day, the water dries fast and might damage the plant. Thus, I have begun to water the plants in the morning.

9. Be patient with yourself

Gardening is something that requires patience. Initially, I thought the plants would grow quickly, but gradually I realized that gardening takes time. I got time to learn from my plants, and now I take better care of them.

10. Create fun experiences

Gardening is not just a hobby, but it is also an experience. Whenever I sit near my plants, I feel a different kind of mental peace. It relieves me from stress and balances my daily routine. If you also join gardening, it will be a fun and enjoyable experience.

Conclusion:
Gardening can be part of a beautiful and balanced lifestyle. What I learned is what you can learn too. Just remember to start slow and sensible, and over time make gardening a part of your daily routine. You will find not only peace, but also a green home.
